GROWTH STRATEGIES IN MATURE MARKETS Sustainability marketing in the beverage industry Beverage companies are in a double dilemma: On the one hand they face stagnant markets in Western Europe and North America, on the other hand they are confronted with health, social and ecological issues. A possible way out of this predicament is sustainability marketing, a modern concept of marketing in the 21st century, which integrates sustainability issues into marketing.

S

ustainability marketing delivers superior value to customers while maintaining or improving the social and natural environments. It creates customer value, social value and ecological

value. If marketing is about satisfying customer needs and building profitable relationships with customers, sustainability marketing may be defined as building and maintaining sustainable relationships with customers, the social environment and the natural environment. Sustainability marketing integrates soci ...

A VISION APPROACHES The future of beverage bottling lines Beverage bottling lines of the future will only have little in common with the structure of the lines we know today. The decades-old vision of constructing a bottling line as a complete Bloc-synchronised whole, has come one step closer, and quite a significant one at that. The filling line Smart Line, newly developed by Krones, marks the beginning of a revolutionary new concept for bottling and packaging. The crucial innovation, the “smart” thing about it, is the mechanical Bloc-synchronisation of individual machines, like the blow-moulder and the labeller, or the filler and the packer, by means of a dynamic buffer. This is made possible by a completely consistent, positive bottle handling, with the spacing being maintained throughout, thus providing the user with all the advantages of a Bloc, such as simple operator control. At the same time, the dynamic buffer eliminates the disadvantages entailed by mutual negative feed ...

HOPS, FRUITY, NON-ALCOHOLIC Flavourful malt beverages Malt-based beverages, for example beer, are desired throughout the world. However, not all consumers want to or can enjoy beer due to its alcohol content. In addition, not all breweries are equipped with the respective capacities and technology to produce nonalcoholic beer. Wild has offered a compound for non-alcoholic malt beverages since 2004 and now the company decisively has enlarged its range of hop and fruit flavours for this application.

M

alt beverages originated from the idea of producing a concentrate from genuine beer ingredients. The raw materials barley malt and hop are used to brew a stock, which is adapted to the specific requirements of the final product. The stock is then carefully concentrated, tandardized and finally filled aseptically. With a special technology, the malt base never contains any alcohol during the production process or in the final product. This way, the malt beverages ar ...

STEAM BOILER SYSTEMS UNDER PERMANENT INSPECTION

In order to guarantee adequate quality of boiler water, the water parameters have to be examined on a continuous and/or periodical basis. Two things that all conventional measuring systems have in common is that they are very time consuming and error-prone. A water analysis apparatus which has been developed by the company Loos in Gunzenhausen (Germany) now allows for a fully automated and continuous analysis on the basis of new measuring methods, and it can also optimise the total operation by saving costs. Markus Tuffner After completing a course in Economic Engineering at the Applied University of Würzburg-Schweinfurt-Aschaffenburg, the author joined Loos International in 1999 as Assistant to the General Sales Manager. He became Head of Marketing Services at the end of 2002.

Siemens L & A to form systems subsidiary

Not just wine, but also beer would flow freely

The Siemens Logistics and Assembly Systems Group (L & A) will fold its product and systems business for material flow solutions into a new subsidiary called Dematic GmbH. Dematic will be managed as a separate legal entity and should begin operations on January 1, 2006.

Wine-makers may be popping the bubbly as the Centre prepares to loosen its grip on wine. But the “preferential treatment” given to wine could be extended to beer too. As Maharashtra sits on the fence on whether “wine should flow as freely as Coca-Cola”, a joint-working group (JWG) headed by the Union Food Processing Ministry has recommended that wine and beer be given “preferential treatment”. Wine is already on the agenda, in terms of making it more accessible in the mass market. Beer still has to sort out some frothy issues, but the di ...
