FINAL REPORT ON DRINKTEC-INTERBRAU 2001 Once again, 70,000 trade visitors at drinktec-interbrau Around 70,000 trade visitors from all over the world, just as many as in 1997, gave drinktecinterbrau 2001 top marks. The new trade fair grounds, where the World Fair for Beverage Technology was held for the first time, also received a great deal of praise. The clear arrangement and grouping in segments got better marks than at the previous event in 1997 and were rated "excellent to good" by almost all exhibitors and visitors. Eighty-six percent of the exhibitors stressed the quality of the exhibitor service, while 86% of the visitors emphasised the visitor information. espite a difficult starting position, drinktec-interbrau again proved a worldwide market centre for the beverage industry. For example, the number of countries represented by visitors at the Munich trade fair rose from 114 to 127. As expected, fewer trade visitors came from overseas as a result of the terrorist attacks in t ...

”SHOWPIECE” FOR CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES High-performance Canning Line at Alex Coulombe Ltée A Canadian who hasn’t heard of Alex Coulombe Ltée is probably hard to find. The reason for this popularity is not just that this beverage business is being managed successfully by the third generation. Alex Coulombe Ltée is above all synonymous with Pepsi-Cola – the largest franchise bottler in Canada. The family-owned business was established in 1905. Pepsi has been bottled since 1935. 7up was added in 1968. Orange Crush franchise activities began in 1979; Canada Dry has been bottled since 1987. The slogan of this family-owned company: Deep-rooted partnerships enjoy maximum priority. Since consumers really relate to the products filled, the tried and tested was supported in a concerted effort. lex Coulombe Ltée received a very special award in 1997 – the year this company was chosen Canada’s ”Bottler of the Year”. An award that was a pleasure to receive and above all ...

BOCK BEER AT 50° DEGREES CENTIGRADE A report on the new brewery O'Zbeksavdo in Navoi, Usbekistan Quite a few things have changed in Usbekistan where the temperature may rise to 50° centigrade in the shade in summer and fall to –20° in winter. The Muslim persuasion has increasingly made its entry again, however, in a way that can be described as moderate. The government is trying to preserve culture on the one hand, and invest in a more progressive future on the other hand. There are various reasons why it is no problem in a country of this region to consume alcoholic beverage in public. Since the average worker with an income of 20 to 40 DEM per month cannot afford a bottle of imported beer which costs 1.50 to 2 DEM, it was obvious to build a brewery. The firm of Beraplan Härter GmbH in Chieming/Hart was entrusted with this project which is extensive mainly with regard to logistics.

FILL LEVEL INSPECTION Measurement Technology for highest Requirements The central application for quality inspection in the filling industry is the precise and reliable determination of the fill level in the filled and closed container. Additional to the legal requirements, quality assurance, safety protection and performance of the complete filling process contribute to this fact. The fill level inspection for underfilled bottles prevents, that an underfilled container arrives at the customer. The overfill inspection finds dangerous overfills, that can cause a burst of the container, and detects simultaneously unnecessary fillings, that effect an expensive product-lost. Today different technologies are offered, guarantee best possible accuracy, depending on the application.

Gamma-Fill Level Inspection The use or radioactive isotope sources (AM 241) is the longest used technology, to check the correct filling of a container in the beverage industry. The technology disting ...

BREWING AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRY INTERNATIONAL

Schloß Mindelburg Verlagsgruppe Sachon

THE GERMAN BEER MARKET The German beer market represents itself rather exciting in the course of the drinktecinterbrau which closed its gates only a few weeks ago. Brewing moguls from all over the world, as far as they had come at all, had the chance to inform themselves during the fair and previously at the World Beer & Drinks Forum about what is going on in the beverage world. After Heineken and Interbrew have already gained a foothold, there are a lot of rumours going around, for example, about Scottish & Newcastle, who only recently announced that they are targeting a position among the world-wide leading five brewing groups. Moreover, there are several other – common suspects – which may be forced to move. In the meantime, the German brewers are appearing rather nervous. On the one hand, investors are eager to present themselves to their best advantage for potential in ...

HUNGARY'S BEER MARKET

SAB TAKES OVER MYSORE BREWERIES LTD. IN INDIA

HARVEST SUPPORT FROM THE UNIVERSE

Beer consumption among Hungarians dropped steadily until 2000. While Hungarians consumed 100 l per year on average at the beginning of the nineties, the per head consumption fell to 70 l by the end of the century. Cheap wine and the wide range of soft drinks had a negative influence on the beer turnover. Due to the tightening up of the quality controls with regard to wine and the increase in prices for soft drinks the competitive edge of beer has improved. In 2000, the beer output rose by 3.7 per cent to 7.294 million hl. In order to increase beer consumption to a large extent, the breweries invest high amounts for their brands. Particularly producers of the brands "Kaiser" (Brau Union) and "Dreher" (South African Breweries) have sharply increased their advertising budget for advert ...
