CAN IDEAS BECOME REALITY Arasan Brewery Sets High Goals The Arasan Brewery is located in the small town of Rudny situated in the far north of Kazakhstan. It is a small brewery but certainly not much longer. For, things are done a bit differently in Kazakhstan. With the help of finest technical equipment and targeted brand communication, this small operation could well develop quickly into a medium size company or even a big player in the market. Prerequisite: seizing opportunities. Everything is pointing in the right direction for the Arasan Brewery – even if things were not looking well for the future of the brewery not too long ago. t was exactly in April 2000 when Arasan acquired the brewery that the suitable means were provided for technical modernization activities and selective expansion of sales and marketing. Since then, things have really begun to happen. While the beer production peaked at close to 30,000 hl in the year 2001, it increased to 42,000 hl during the first hal ...

VALVES IN THE FOOD AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRIES In the food industry there are, apart from product lines, also other lines such as auxiliary CIP lines, water-supply lines, waste-water lines, lines for air, gas and heating media (mostly steam, but also hot water or other thermal media). he specifications for valves used in these branches of industry are as varied as the media themselves. Essentially, we differentiate between valves in accordance with

Specifications – Shutoff function – Backflow prevention – Pressure-stabilizing action – Protection against overor underpressure – Pressure- or volume-regulating function – Sampling Types of valve – Seat valves – Ball valves – Butterfly valves – Gate valves, etc. As a rule, not only the basic suitability of a valve is of importance; also aspects of an economic nature play a part in the selection process. Apart from the price of the valve itself, one has to consider installation and maintenance costs ...

BREAKTHROUGH IN THE OPTIMIZATION OF PET RECYCLING TECHNOLOGY Schmalbach-Lubeca and Bühler jointly develop economically viable bottle-to-bottle recycling of PET bottles Economically viable bottle-to-bottle recycling becomes possible for the first time ever: In co-operation with the Bühler Technology Group, Schmalbach-Lubeca, Germany, has developed an improved recycling system for the production of new beverage bottles from postconsumer PET containers. Schmalbach-Lubeca AG will more than treble the production volume of its recycling plant in Beaune, France, – from currently 6,000 to roughly 20,000 tons annually (that is about 600 million PET bottles per year) – while significantly reducing production costs. The new recycling system from Bühler will be commissioned in Beaune in late 2002. Roughly DEM 10 m is earmarked for investment. oth the consumption of PET beverage bottles and the volume of post-consumer PET bottles at collection and recycling companies will increase signific ...

HACCP PRACTICE IN THE BREWERY Integrated analysis data with volumetric and temporal transparency in the brewing process Today, product liability, product variety and production flexibility require measures in the supervision of processes, which rule out errors during production. The commitment to quality assurance has lead to the introduction of a HACCP concept. This way, quality parameters are controlled at critical control stages which guarantee the security of food.

– beer quality before the filling into bottles All above mentioned points have to be systematically included in a HACCP technique which is running through a process in order to

INTERNATIONAL EVENTS SINO-PACK 2002 The packaging industry in China has been developing at a high speed. Before China’s access to WTO, it achieved an average increase of 20 percent in production value per year. The industry will be more prosperous in the future. To meet the market needs, the 9 th China International Exhibition on Packaging Machinery & Materials (hereafter called "Sino-Pack 2002") will set up four specific zones, namely "Food/Daily Chemical Pack Zone", "Pharmaceutical Pack Zone" and "Adhesive/Label Zone" and "Paper Packaging Zone", to speed up the information exchange between domestic and foreign professionals and enhance their competitiveness. Organized by the China Foreign Trade Centre (Group) and Adsale Exhibition Service Ltd. and co-organized by the Guangdong Packaging Technology Association and Guangdong Provincial Light Industry Association, SinoPack 2002 will be held at China foreign Trade Centre, Guangzhou, PR China on April 2-5 2002. ALLIED INDUSTRIES PEEL-OFF LABELS OPTIMIZE LOGISTIC AND WAREHOUSE OPERATIONS An innovative solution for optimized warehouse and logistic management which provides particular cost benefits to breweries producing several different brands has been jointly developed by Schreiner and one of ist systems partners. The ingenious concept of this solution: Instead of the conventional practice of direct screen-printing onto a beverage crate, the crate is equipped with flexible peel-off labels. A dispensing system with either 2 or 4 dispensing heads, depending on the specific requirement of two- or four-side labeling, is installed at the production plant. The system has two parts: a peel-off and a dispensing device.

Depending on the requirement, a universal crate is then equipped with either the required standard or special promotional label. The need for time-consuming crate sorting and holding empty crates in stand-by stocks is thus eliminated. Once the crates have returned to the ...

BREWING AND BEVERAGE INDUSTRY INTERNATIONAL

Schloß Mindelburg Verlagsgruppe Sachon

ODD GERMANY The German brewery market is actually a quite peculiar market. The large-scale breweries do not become essentially bigger and they do not play an international role at all either. The medium-sized breweries have been labelled as the last dinosaurs by trade experts for a long time and should have given up long ago. Small breweries, by comparison, enjoy the high esteem of the entire trade since they are praised as the last guarantors of a former flourishing beer culture. It is a fact, however, that breweries of all sizes are not doing very well. The big ones fight each other by means of the price, the medium-sized don’t know where to start the fight, and the small ones fight against themselves much too often. Thus, a lot of blood is spilled, a fact which is lamented by all sides on the other hand. Naturally, there are some breweries which have found their own way an ...

WORLD NEWS GERMANY:

BRAU UND BRUNNEN REDEVELOPMENT ALREADY STARTED In the background of the redevelopment of the Brau und Brunnen AG, Berlin/Dortmund, the leading shareholder, the HypoVereinsbank AG, Munich has contributed 30 m DEM to the reorganization. This was announced ad hoc by the enterprise. Moreover, inner reserves in the amount of about 44 m DEM will be released by shifting the business shares of the Thüringer Waldquell Mineralbrunnen GmbH from the Apollinaris Brunnen AG to Brau und Brunnen. According to the statements, the chairman of the board, Michael Hollmann continues to expect, if at all, very low losses for 2002, and profits for 2003.

QUALITY MANAGEMENT IN FOCUS A newly developed portable oxygen analyzer provides improved control of inspection equipment in breweries The diverse negative effects of oxygen on individual stages of brewing processes are indeed well known. The catalytic properties of oxygen which, above all, have an effect on the aging or maturing process of the beer, make it practicably indispensable to be able to analyze oxygen concentrations throughout the entire process chain. The Swiss Feldschlösschen Beverages Group (Carlsberg) therefore recently decided in favor of using a new portable oxygen analyzer in order to reliably check their installed in-line measuring systems. he aging process of beer is primarily induced by the presence of carbonyls which promote aroma formation even at very low concentrations. Oxygen can to a certain extent support this aging process in several ways:
