QUALITY ASSURANCE AND BEYOND ERP and LIMS Systems for the Beverage Industry A comprehensive Quality Management is among the most significant requirements for success-oriented companies in the beverage industry. With regard to information technology, their practical business-level processes are based on two prominent pillars. The first pillar is formed by the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system. It controls all business operations in their organizational entirety and includes the automated capture of data (ADC). The other pillar is the Laboratory Information and Management System (LIMS). This system is designed to organize all relevant and significant tasks at laboratory level in a structured and flexible manner.

he integration of both ERP and LIMS in the functional areas purchasing, production, and warehousing is an absolute necessity for transparent traceability of both business procedures and the flow of materials and goods throughout

INTEGRAL MANAGEMENT Industrial IT offers new possibilities in the process control field The structures of process control equipment are changing. Continuous and interlaced intelligence is increasingly forming the foundation for automation and is the basis for information transfer, information selection and information evaluation. Integral management of systems and automation components requires transparency of information in two dimensions: in the vertical direction, from the field up to management, and in the horizontal direction, from the first idea to automation over to engineering, initial start-up to operation and maintenance. Important in this context is the contemplation of a production unit as a whole in order to reduce the operating costs and to increase the performance of the system in every respect.

THE BEER OF THE COLONISTS Micro-brewery in the Chilean Lake District One and a half century ago German immigrants began to cultivate the virgin landscape around Lake Llanquihue in Southern Chile. In our days dairy farming is the traditional business of their descendants. But the milk-prices are low and so eight farmers made come true their vision of a micro-brewery: Cerveza Colonos, the beer of the colonists was born.

MOLDOVA’S FLOURISHING WINE CULTURE Cricova-Acorex pursues strategy of uncompromising quality Moldova is a small land-locked country with the total surface area of 33700 square kilometers. FLOOR CONTAMINATION – A PROBLEM Suitable floor materials and hygienic cleaning methods prevent injuries or health problems and save costs In the beverage industry frequently the subject of cleaning the floors is not paid the attention as it would be required due to reasons of safety and hygiene. On the one hand a dirty floor is a safety risk to the employees, on the other hand germs and dirt on the floors are distributed over larger surfaces by traffic and can cause contaminations and partially serious food hygiene problems. Therefore, the German regulations for the prevention of accidents and the German food hygiene decree require that the floor shall be easily cleanable, maintained thoroughly and cleaned regularly. WATER AS AN IMAGE VEHICLE Weak points and characteristics of chemical water treatment methods The production of beverages consumes considerable amounts of water which are, on the one hand, directly needed for the product itself and, on the other hand, result in waste water. In order to reach the fresh water amount, 1.4 – 1.8 hl /hl are added during the beer production, while 1.0 – 1.2 hl /hl are added during the production of non alcoholic beverages. The appropriate water is not only an important factor as regards to quality, but also as regards to costs. ithout going into details, water must be saved and the pollution load must be reduced at the same time. Even in smaller companies, "water management” which optimizes manpower, method, machine, material, environment and monitoring as a system, is a necessity. An integration into this system contributes to an increased security.

WITH A NEW NAME INTO THE FUTURE If a brand name is being changed one is having his difficulties at first. The new name, initially, often meets with disapproval. One must, however, start from the assumption that this is rather done out of a general dislike. It is not that the new name is not well received, but man is a creature of habit. Many must have fared similarly when they heard the new name of the Brau Beviale 2002. For the moment, it sounds almost trivial, but as time passes, one gets used to it and finally it becomes accepted as the new, international-sounding name with the necessary addition. After all, the fair in Nuremberg has developed into a European trade fair which focuses not only on beer but also on soft drinks. Exhibitors and fair are granting this enormous growth segment more and more space. Also the special fair for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages calle ...

PREPARED FOR ALL EVENTUALITIES Mineral water, soft drinks, as well as beer – non-returnable PET line at Carlsberg meets all bottling needs The beginning of beer-in-PET marketing at Carlsberg Brewery, Sweden, provided, among other things, the basis for a decision in favor of truly unique plant engineering. The demand was for filling and packing equipment suitable for all eventualities taking fully into account the flexibility requirements of Carlsberg's Bromma site. The least spectacular of all demands was for non-returnable PET processing. Exceptionally impressive in contrast were other requirements to be fulfilled by ultra-modern plant engineering: bottling mineral water, soft drinks, fruit juice beverages, and beer on a single line in containers that could range in size from 0.35 liters to 2.0 liters. Carlsberg Brewery, based in Bromma, a suburb of Stockholm, is Carlsberg Sweden's largest brewery and at the same time is Sweden's biggest beverage operation. Here is where 191 liter ...

MAXIMUM BENEFIT IN SMALL AREA Vertical conveyor technology applied by Beck & Co For a space-saving conveying of packed bottles to the lower palletization the brewery Beck & Co, Bremen, applies a vertical conveyor technology of AmbaFlex. rade fairs are rewarding. This can be documented, not in the least by the successful partnership between AmbaFlex and the German brewery Beck & Co, Bremen. It started with a first contact during the Hannover Fair in the year 1998. Meanwhile, Beck has installed two spiralveyors from the Dutch manufacturer of conveyor systems. The vertical conveyor technology allows a space-saving positioning process of products on a belt. 'We are very content with the functionality and maintenance friendliness of the spiralveyors,' said Roger Benter of Beck's planning department. 'Under our direction, AmbaFlex conveyor tec ...
